Who can marry through the United Church of Canada?

Wedding ceremonies are open to people of all faiths, cultures, sexual identities and orientations.

Being divorced does not prohibit a religious celebration of your marriage. You must provide a final copy of your divorce judgement and other information as required by the director of l’État Civil of the province of Quebec.

Qui peut se marier à l’Église Unie?

Les mariages sont ouverts aux gens de toute confession, culture, identité de genre ou orientation sexuelle.

Le fait d’être divorcé n’empêche pas une célébration religieuse de votre mariage. Vous devez simplement fournir une copie de votre jugement de divorce avec les autres documents demandés par l’État civil du Québec.

Who can officiate?

If you want a Christian marriage celebration, one of our ministers can act as officiant or refer you to another minister of the United Church of Canada.

If you want a civil marriage, or one based in another faith tradition, you may find your own celebrant, providing that she or he is authorized by the Directeur de l’état civil du Québec to perform marriages.

Qui peut célébrer le mariage?

Si vous désirez un mariage chrétien, un(e) de nos pasteur(e)s peut célébrer votre union ou vous référer un(e) autre pasteur(e) de l’Église Unie.

Si vous désirez un mariage civil ou d’une autre foi ou confession, vous pouvez trouver votre propre célébrant(e), en autant qu’il/elle soit autorisé par le Directeur de l’état civil du Québec à célébrer un mariage.

Do you need to be a member of the United Church of Canada to be married there?

There is no requirement for the couple to be members, nor to have been baptized in order to have your marriage performed at a Laurentian Area Mininstry church, even if it is a religious ceremony.

Faut-t-il être membre de l’Église Unie pour s’y marier?

Nous n’exigeons pas que les futurs marié(e)s soient membres ou même baptisé(e)s pour célébrer leur union, même s’il s’agit d’un mariage religieux (ou inter-religieux).

Who should I contact to arrange a marriage?

Each church of the Laurentian Area Ministry arranges their own rentals and schedules for their buildings.
